Ethics...

I know quite a profound topic, but suddenly the news of layoffs in the organization i work made me think of it.How does the management decide to layoff people?Lately the trend is to fire with no consideration to one's performance in the organisation.Does the rapport the employee shares with manager come into picture?Does one's connection with them make a difference. To answer to all the above questions is a yes!Welcome to the MNC trend. Its quite disillusioning to say the least. When i started my career i was all set to make a record in efficiency .I did too,i can say this without conciet. But,alas it got me nowhere since i had no connections,so a pat on the head is all got from management. No,i was never asking them for a hike! But thats another story(of my previous organisation)....Getting back to ethics in MNC's, I have vowed to look for a more ethical employer next time i look for a job!Indian companies to some extent are better than MNC's where firing is done with a little more grace. In MNC's shockingly sometimes people are fired and security escorts them out of the premesis immediately on the same day. So,the trend now that employer looks for stable employee and changed to employee looking for a stable employer. This small note wont express what i really want to say,but it would suffice to say that "Expect the unexpected with MNC's"

  1. Hey... Indian Companies are now on the same path as MNCs... Think of the IT Company , of The Most 'Ethical' Business Name in India.. and there also , similar pink slip fashion can be seen in recent times...
And yes.. there is no way which can be called graceful for firing..ask a person who has been fired..and he will tell you how disgraceful this firing is...
The point is... pink slip is a bitter fact in today's Hard times ..We need to survive this..
Two more facts..which should be remembered in these times. :
1- Survival of the Fittest .. as told by Darwin Uncle...
2- Khudi ko kar buland itna, ke har takdeer se pehlay
Khuda bande se khud puche, bata teri raza kiya hai
    ..as told by Iqbal Uncle...

  3. Rachana,

Life has it's good and it's bad, when we accepted the IT boom with open hands, we should have the guts to digest the ugly side of it.

Like Mani has said, it's time for the survival of the fittest. We just need to make sure we are fit, mentally and develop our skills to the next best level and make ourselves indipensable!

    Stay positive and optimistic

    Cheers,

  4. Well... to my believe all the companies are firing just because they have to reduce their operational cost and show some more profit in quarterly results, not to mention internal politics which you have bought well but yes all the companies are trying to encash this time and fire everyone they don't like or close the department which is not giving them profit. To my point sometime it's very much important to keep the organization keep going else we have already seen "lehman brothers" but yes it's even unfair to have your perks crossing 2bn/year and you don't talk about taking a pay cut whereas you pass the orders to fire some employees in the virtue of rescission as in the case of RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland).

    Nice post.
