Does everything happen for a reason?

I was just wondering about this phrase which is often used to placate someone who is in doldrums.Does it work?Maybe for some and not for some. But makes you wonder if it really is true?We often go over things again and again and wonder what/why it went wrong? But do we realize what chain reaction it sets in place. We often hear people missing accidents just because they were late to a place. So,similarly every incident in our life is preordained to a set path which has two outcomes?Or this phrase is to kid ourselves that everything is alright?Possibly every situation cannot be called a pleasant experience. But unpleasantness is for a reason?I have tried this when i go through a bad patch. After that ,analyse what good has come out of all that unpleasantness. And surprisingly i often come with some positive energy. So,i guess some intelligent being who said "everything happens for a reason" was right.

  1. I agree, everything does happen for a reason. I'd have loved to see an example.. You could have narrated the incident that made you write this, am sure it would have made it a more interesting read.. :)

  2. Oh well. Its not just one but a series of incidents happening in one's life.Think about it,and you feel better.Well, when you are in the mode of i should have done this, chosen that etc etc..(i.e.trying to rewrite your past in your dreams).Think about what you have because of your choices.Instant nirvana..(not always huh)

I would rather say that "everything happens for a reason" is more of a motivational quote ..rather than a 'fact' which can be debated for its verity.
Its more of a belief which ,I agree, can give positive energy sometimes but many times used to kid ourselves that everything is alright.
Remember the Chain Reactions could have multiple outcomes , what finally happens ,is what we believe its reason , the other possible outcomes are not at all 'Visible' and therefore discarded.
But Believing that everything happens for a reason is just like having a blind failth in The Oracle's prophecy ... Destiny.
Use this phrase to shed off the bad patch, but put your all efforts to make ur own destiny.
