Queen! A woman jilted

I know the movie is very old now and probably already been talked about to death. But, somehow i see some shift in thought process as all women audience are able to relate to it.For those who don't know the story. Its about a girl in the typical Indian scenario in midst of her wedding preparations. Its a love match and guy used to pester girl during her college days. But just a day before wedding the guy feels that he can't marry her and says that to the girl. Now you will expect the emotional blackmail and crying to start. But thankfully the rest of the movie is not just about sad drama. Its about the girl breaking free from centuries old tradition and going to a solo honeymoon to Europe. She mingles with people and slowly evolves into a comparatively stronger personality compared to the start of the movie.Later on goes ahead to reject the guy when he comes back and wants to marry her.She realizes that she needs someone who allows her to be who she is.
On facebook a group of women travelers from India were discussing the so called "solo honeymoon " concept. No, its not rejected women in search of nirvana, but travelling solo for sake of travelling! Strangely many confessed on going on such trips long before Queen released .One girl impressed me, she hadn't watched Queen and had gone to a 2 month Euro trip (self planned) all alone in 2012!! She impressed me and i had to add her to my friend list and yes, she did accept my request. We started chatting and i asked her the cost/planning etc done for such a trip.It turned out that self planned /budgeted travel is lot cheaper than a package tour!Sign...maybe someday i will do a self planned Euro trip, seems like a distant dream now.Albeit, i will prefer to go with someone than solo.
I remember watching the movie when many of my friends asked "have you seen queen".So, finally i watched it 2 weeks after its release. Now, most girls have Euro dream , as film had glamorized the whole travel deal. Some want to travel just because it seemed fun, despite not really liking travel !I already had a Euro dream since few years, i always read about countries in Europe, monarchies, history ,subscribed to  travel forums, read about package tours..The expense , the fear, the lack of company held me back. Now, Indians have started splurging on travel, the concept of owning multiple houses, cars etc ..is reducing. The concept of experiencing life and living it is taking shape in Indian society.Queen, is not just is a tale about a woman redeeming herself from the pressures of society, marriage, but it is also a film that transpires a change in the outlook of how small-town girls are perceived. Often regarded to be buried under the control of men, Queen breaks the stereotype and manages to rise strong and bring a change in the outlook.
Ofcourse, we also discussed about "what would we do if we were in place of Rani?"I recent comment from certain someone made me recall that conversation.I will probably kick the guy in the gut :D
Few life lessons we take away from the movie,
- You need to have a sense of humor in life to combat unusual situations.
- To be adventurous and explore life,Never let anything pull you down!
- The barriers and restrictions holding us back in life are mostly the constructs of our own mind .
- We usually have a myopic vision of our problems and restrict our untapped abilities by giving the reins of our life in someone else’s hands
